Donegal Gardaí have appealed for help in catching a motorcyclist who attacked a woman’s car in a road range incident in Inishowen.

The motorcyclist continually thumped the female driver’s vehicle and chased her as she drove out of Buncrana on Sunday afternoon.

Garda spokeswoman, Grainne Doherty said the incident, which she described as “terrifying” and “unusual”, occurred shortly after 3pm on Sunday as the woman approached traffic lights at Aileach Road in Buncrana.

“This motorcyclist pulled up alongside the car on the driver’s side. The motorcyclist was irate; they were revving the engine and shouting at the driver. They started to repeatedly punch the car.

“This driver then, obviously was terrified, drove onwards towards the Cockhill Road. The motorcyclist followed on, alongside the car and persisted in this behaviour, shouting and punching the car,” Garda Doherty said.

In an effort to escape the motorcyclist, the woman turned off towards Carndonagh and stopped her car at Umricam.

“The motorcyclist then bent the wing mirror backwards on the car before taking off,” the Garda spokeswoman said.

In her weekly Garda report on Donegal’s Highland Radio, Garda Doherty appealed to anyone with information about the attack and in particular to anyone with dash cam footage to come forward. She appealed to anyone with information to contact Gardaí in Buncrana.
