Police have released a 34-year-old man who was arrested on Monday in connection with the shooting of a man in Co Down earlier this month.

Brian McCourt, who is in his 40s, was shot by a masked man in a car park in the Rathfriland Road area of Banbridge on Friday April 12.

Mr McCourt, from the Banbridge area, was shot in the abdomen and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

A PSNI spokesperson said the 34-year-old man presented himself to police on Monday, and was questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

He was later released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

A 46-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder was released on bail.
